Once you step onto the grounds of Halekulani and our sister property, Halepuna Waikiki by Halekulani, the striking centerpieces at the front of each hotel catch your eye. These pieces, along with all the floral arrangements at both properties, are created by our talented in-house florist team.
Florals are done in the Sogetsu Style of Ikebana floral arranging, a free-flowing style using any material. The floral shop team, led by Flower Shop Manager Irene Bacani, with over 40 years of experience combined. They are constantly researching new and innovative ways to craft new arrangements.
With sustainability top of mind, the team has become extremely resourceful in their designs. For example, Fan Palm leaves were used in the lobby centerpiece. When the piece was changed, the team “upcycled” the leaves by painting them to give them a different look and texture, extending their longevity for use in another arrangement.
Depending on the season, the shop likes to source a variety of flowers for each property, based upon availability and service request. While many of the florals the team uses are not grown on Oahu, they are in contact with various vendors from the neighbor islands and California.
All arrangements are tended to on a daily basis and changed on a weekly basis throughout various spaces at both properties, such as the lobbies, restaurants and suites. The team also develops custom floral packages and arrangements for weddings, holidays and special occasions and even assists with unique orders and special guest requests.
While the most enjoyable part of the team’s job can also be the most challenging, they take pride in producing new designs and unique creations. They collaborate creatively and stay mindful of the optimal environment for each specific flower.
Guests can order florals and leis for special occasions and weddings in advance through the Concierge Desk at each property. The flower shop is open daily from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
