Visiting Master Workshop: Calibrating Centeredness

- | Garden Terrace

Led by martial arts master and artist Ray Carbullido, this workshop explores centeredness and vitality through the study of standing. Drawing from internal martial arts principles, Ray emphasizes the crucial capacities within the feet and how activating and working with different parts of the feet directly affects grounding, balance, stability, and overall well-being. This session is distilled from a core principle of martial arts: ninety percent of skillful martial arts is footwork.

Participants will explore the full spectrum of the human stand. Within this range, guests experience how different postural relationships support release, expansion, grounding, and vitality. This workshop offers a direct way to sense how centeredness arises from the ground up, revealing how simple movements can engage the whole body and support strength, clarity, and presence.

What to expect:

  • Standing practice in place, with space between participants

  • Exploration of squatting and rising within the standing range

  • Attention on footwork and how different parts of the feet influence grounding and balance

  • Occasional assisted support between participants if needed

  • No walking or contact between participants

Attire: Comfortable clothing. Barefoot practice encouraged.
