Visiting Master Workshop: Powerful Postures & Movements (For Modern Times)

- | Kalia/Kiawe

Led by martial arts master and artist Ray Carbullido, this workshop explores the relationship between stillness and movement, and how posture directly affects balance, stability, and how we carry ourselves through daily life. This session focuses on seated ground postures, specifically kneeling and sitting, revealing the mobility that exists between them and the importance of being connected to the ground for well-being and vitality.

Through simple stationary postures, this workshop reveals where unrest resides in the body and being. By pausing movement, participants observe how subtle internal agitation becomes visible, offering insight into both physical and emotional states. The work also highlights the distinction between movement and mobility: movement refers to motion within the body, while mobility refers to traveling through space. All mobility contains movement, yet not all movement contains mobility, and understanding this informs how the body settles, organizes, and regenerates.

Participants are guided through practices that emphasize observation and awareness over exertion, with space between one another. Those unable to perform certain seated postures may still gain insight through observation. This practice also supports healing and rejuvenation capacities over time.

What to expect:

  • Seated ground practice (kneeling and sitting)
  • Mobility explored between seated postures
  • Observation and awareness emphasized over exertion
  • Insight available through doing or observing
  • Quiet, focused environment

Attire: Comfortable clothing suitable for seated practice.
