Land Sky Ocean by JOHN KOGA (1964) is one of the four original oil paintings commissioned by Halekulani made especially to be displayed on the walls of our rooms and suites. Striking a harmonious balance of the elements, this playful piece resembles the likeness of another work in the collection titled “Surf and Submerged Rocks” by Tadashi Sato, who was a mentor to Koga. The scene may also call to mind the view just outside our hotel windows towards Lēʻahi where the healing waters of Kawehewehe are visible in the foreground. Behind the carefully moulded mountains is a sky with several shades of white on the verge of color, ready to give way to a rainbow.
